As I have debated with various supporters of the Ground Zero mosque, they have consistently tried to argue the “good intentions” of Imam Rauf and his financial backers. The claims have been that this project is aimed toward “outreach” and “understanding” and yadda, yadda, yadda….
My response to these naive claims has been to highlight the numerous ways that the planners of the mosque have chosen to deliberately insult and denigrate the US in general and the victims of 9/11 in particular. This starts with the site itself, continues through a planned opening date on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and now this:
