Interesting…

May 27, 2006 · Leave a Comment

You know I can't stay away from socio-political commentary for too long. Here's a great quote I just ran across:

"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." –John Stuart Mill

War is difficult and often ugly, but those who insist that it is never justified or never necessary have little or no understanding of the reality of evil and the fact that sometimes genuine evil must be forcefully resisted. No, things in Iraq may not have always gone as smoothly as we might have liked, but then neither did many of the Civil War campaigns, the landing on Iwo Jima or the Normandy Invasion for that matter. That does not change the fact that all these sacrifices were for noble and worthwhile causes… no matter what idiots like Cindy Sheehan or moveon.org may claim!

This Memorial Day, take some time to think of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf not only of our freedom, but many others facing oppression and even annihilation around the world.

She’s beautiful

Well, now that we've had a couple days here with Phil, Cassie and Miss Lily, I can say that she is definitely beautiful. When she smiles at you she melts your heart. I know that everyone says that about their own children and grandchildren, but when you experience it yourself, you realize how real and how true it is!

Lots of stuff

May 17, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Lot of things happening in the last couple of days… school’s out for summer (students finished yesterday and teachers finish tomorrow). As soon as we are finished, we are in the car and off to Michigan to see our new granddaughter… the lovely Miss Lily. Hopefully, we will get there by Friday night and get to see her for the first time. This is on top of finally getting moved into our new house during the last several days. Like I said… lots of stuff going on. Exhausting, but exciting :-)

Where to begin??

May 5, 2006 · Leave a Comment

With all the time that has passed since my last post, it's hard to know where to begin with all that's happened. Let's just say that today is shaping up to be a very memorable day in our family.

First, I got the word from the Credit Union that it looks like all the bugs have been worked out and we should be able to get the mortage and close on schedule next Wed. In addition, the CU is going to lend us the additional money we need to completely pay off ALL our remaining debts! PTL… we will be completely debt free (except for the mortage) for the first time in 20 years!

Next, right now I'm waiting for the phone call at any minute telling me that our granddaughter Lily has been born. (It's now 12:15pm and it's probably happening as I type) What a blessing that thig looong process is coming to its conclusion.

Finally, Jacque just finished a very good job interview at Morton-Plant Hospital (one of the largest in the area) for one of the 4 positions they have open right now that she is qualified for.

Looks like it will be a "cinco de mayo" that we will be celebrating for quite some time!
